MINDFULNESS
FOR
TEENS
The pandemic has brought disruption and anxiety to many young people's lives. Our youth need tools to navigate this ever changing and challenging world. Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing awareness on the present moment, while calmly observing what is happening inside (thoughts, emotions, body sensations) and around us.
The Mindfulness Ambassador Program is an evidence based program, designed to equip youth with the soft skills they need to navigate the ups and downs of daily life. The program is designed to:
-
promote social emotional intelligence;
-
improve attention;
-
build a sense of belonging; and,
-
provide tools to navigate emotions.
Research from The University of Toronto Social Work Department found youth who participated in this program:
-
were better able to manage stress & anxiety;
-
experienced higher levels of self esteem; and,
-
communicated more effectively.
